Custom Foil Stamping

Created by Caitlin Greene, Modified on Mon, 29 Jun at 3:09 PM by Caitlin Greene

Foil stamping is a specialty print process that uses heat and pressure to apply a metallic or pigmented foil to your design. It creates a reflective finish that adds elegance and texture to wedding invitations, stationery, gift tags, and more. Foil stamping is one of our most popular specialty print options and is perfect for creating a luxurious, high-end look. It can be combined with CMYK or White Ink Digital printing, depending on the paper type selected.

This article covers our foil-stamped products, foil color options, limitations, and information about reusing an existing foil die. For information on ordering, file setup, or turnaround times, please see our related articles.

Foil Stamped Products

We currently offer foil stamping on the following products:

  • Foil Stamped Flat Card
  • Foil Stamped Folded Card
  • Foil Stamped Gift & Wine Tags
  • Foil Stamped Tri-Fold Card
  • Foil Stamped Z-Fold Card

Foil Color Options

We offer 11 foil colors and finishes, giving you plenty of options to complement your designs.

Gold and Silver are the most popular and offer the highest reflectivity.

Notes on Color Variation

  • Foil colors may appear slightly different in person depending on lighting conditions and paper texture.
  • Textured stocks (like Linen, Felt, or Cotton) can create a slightly softer foil appearance.
  • Metallic foils produce stronger shine on smooth, coated papers.

Limitations for Foil Stamping

Since foil stamping is a specialty, labor-intensive process, there are a few limitations to keep in mind.

  • Foil Stamping can only be done on the front of your product
  • Folded Cards can only be foil stamped on the front panel once folded
  • Variable Print jobs cannot be combined with foil stamping
  • Certain paper stocks are not available with Foil Stamping, such as our Text Weight or Vellum papers.

Reusing a Foil Die

One of the biggest advantages of foil stamping is that your custom die can be reused for future orders. After a die is created, we store it at no additional charge, allowing you to reorder without paying for a new die each time.

To reuse your die:

  1. The new order must be the exact same size and layout as the original.
  2. The foil design must remain unchanged, the digital printing can be changed.
  3. Select “Use Existing Foil Die” under foil options when ordering the foil product.

Reusing a die can reduce foil costs by up to 50% on future orders and helps streamline production.

Die Storage Policy

  • Dies are stored for up to 12 months after your last order.

  • If you reorder within that period, we’ll reuse your existing die.

  • After 12 months, dies may be recycled to make room for new projects.

If you’d like to confirm whether your die is still on file, contact our support team.
