Tent-Fold vs Standard Folded Cards

Created by Caitlin Greene, Modified on Tue, 30 Jun at 1:35 PM by Caitlin Greene

Folded cards and tent fold cards are both scored and folded printed pieces, but they’re used in different ways. This article explains the difference so you can choose the right product for your stationery, signage, or event display.

Folded Cards

A folded card is scored and folded along the long edge of the paper. This creates a traditional card format that opens from the side or bottom, depending on the orientation of the finished card.

Folded cards are a great fit for:

  • Greeting cards
  • Holiday cards
  • Thank you cards
  • Small book-style printed pieces

Most folded cards are designed to be opened by the recipient. They’re often used when you want room for a front design, an inside message, and optional back artwork.

Tent-Fold Cards

A tent fold card is scored and folded along the short edge of the paper. This creates a standing shape that can sit upright on a table or flat surface.

Tent fold cards are commonly used for:

  • Table numbers
  • Reserved signs
  • Menu displays
  • Event signage

Tent fold cards are especially helpful when your printed piece needs to be visible while standing on its own.
