What does 4|0 or 4|4 mean?

Created by Caitlin Greene, Modified on Mon, 15 Jun at 4:11 PM by Caitlin Greene

These terms refer to front printing only or front and back printing. The 4 represents the four colors in the CMYK color space. This is the color space used in digital printing. These four colors combine to create full-color prints.

What Do 4|0 and 4|4 Mean?

These terms describe whether a piece is printed on one or both sides of a flat sheet:

  • 4|0 (Four Over Zero):

    • Only the front side of the file has printing.

    • The back side is blank.

    • For folded items, this means nothing is printed on the inside panels.

  • 4|4 (Four Over Four):

    • Both the front and back sides are printed using CMYK colors.

    • Files converted from RGB to CMYK will always contain 4 colors on our presses.

    • For folded items, this includes printing on inside panels.
